The Shin Bet said 72 people from the Negev and the south had been detained for questioning on suspicion of security offences since the start of 2026, 67 of them Israeli citizens. Indictments were filed against about 50.
Among the cases it described were five young Bedouin men from Segev Shalom arrested in May and June. The agency alleges they planned to form an armed battalion modelled on West Bank groups and to attack the local police station and Beersheba's central bus station.
The allegations are the agency's own account; court proceedings are continuing.
