The Association for Civil Rights in Israel wrote to the government and the attorney general on 14 October asking them not to approve Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's proposal to take NIS 964 million from funds meant for a future multi-year plan for Arab society.
Attorney Hagar Shechter said the move would damage the plan before it was even drawn up, after cuts to the current five-year plan. Taken two weeks before the election, she said, it binds the next government's budgets for 2027-2029.
Bokra reported that an earlier cut of about NIS 1 billion for 12 Apache helicopters came mostly from the five-year plan, and that ministers were to weigh a further NIS 2.6 billion across-the-board cut.
