Israeli authorities made Fawaz al-Rajabi demolish his family's home in the Beit Hanina neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem on Sunday, 25 October, after issuing a written order, the Wadi Hilweh Information Center told WAFA. The 60-square-metre house had stood for 15 years and was home to him, his wife and their five children.

The family had already been fined a total of 60,000 shekels over the construction, which the municipality says was built without a permit. Earlier in October, WAFA reported three Shawamreh family homes demolished in Beit Hanina's al-Ashqariya area and two other residents forced to tear down their own houses.

Palestinians in East Jerusalem rarely obtain Israeli building permits. According to OCHA, some families demolish their homes themselves to avoid the higher costs and fines imposed when the authorities carry out the demolition. The Rajabi family of seven is now without a home, WAFA said.
