About 9,000 Palestinians hold permits to work in settlements. The closures follow the Hebron attack and come alongside a wider lockdown of the territory.

Israel said it would close all land crossings with the West Bank on 27 October, election day, and barred Palestinian workers from settlements from 25 October.

All land crossings with the West Bank will close on election day, France 24 reported, citing AFP.

From Sunday the army barred Palestinian workers from entering Israeli communities and restricted their movement across the West Bank, including to industrial zones.

The Times of Israel reported that about 9,000 Palestinians hold permits to work in settlements and that crossings would reopen after election day.

Over Friday and Saturday the army said it operated in 40 areas and detained about 40 suspects it linked to Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
