Farmers report settlers in keffiyehs among those attacking olive groves
Many families started picking two weeks early this year to reduce the risk of violence. The harvest officially runs from 15 October to the end of November.
Palestinian farmers told France 24 that some settlers attacking groves wore keffiyehs, as Israeli rights group B'Tselem said soldiers often stand by while settlers attack and steal.
France 24's Observers spoke to farmers in the Hebron governorate and near Birzeit, who gave pseudonyms.
One said they had been barred from their orchard on the grounds it was now a military zone. Another said settlers wearing keffiyehs had come to attack them.
France 24 also found that a widely shared video of trees being ripped up was fake, while noting that real uprooting is well documented.
B'Tselem estimates the olive sector is worth about $170 million a year to Palestinians.
